Compensation & Casting Structure
The Lead Conspiracy is produced using a season-wide cast budget rather than a strict episode-by-episode budget.
What this means is that each episode is planned around the equivalent of approximately ten paid speaking roles, but that number may vary depending on the needs of the story. Episodes with smaller casts allow later episodes to support larger ensembles, recurring characters, and more complex scenes.
For actors, this means that character importance is determined by their role in the overall season, not by the number of lines they have in a single episode. Some characters may appear heavily in one episode and only briefly in another, while others may disappear for several episodes before returning later in the season.
The goal of this system is to maximize the number of paid opportunities available across the production while ensuring that each episode has the cast it needs to tell the story effectively.
Because of this, a character's compensation and casting status should be viewed from a season perspective rather than an individual episode perspective.
Example
For example, if an episode only requires seven paid speaking roles, the unused budget can be applied to a later episode that may require twelve or thirteen paid speaking roles. This allows the production to support a larger overall cast across the season while remaining financially sustainable.
